Presenters: Dilek Fraisl, Linda SeeThe UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a call to action to tackle the world’s greatest challenges. The key question is how to achieve the SDGs when there are large data gaps or the data are not comprehensive enough to make timely decisions to enhance people’s wellbeing. This session will demonstrate the value of citizen science for the SDGs including examples of how citizen science currently contributes to SDG monitoring as well as where it has the potential to contribute. Recommendations for how citizen science data can be integrated into the official statistics used for SDG reporting will be provided.

Presenters: Marijn van der Velde, Jacob van Etten, Anett RichterHere we offer a session in the format of an Interactive session to scope and (if deemed feasible) start to co-develop an ECSA working group on the subject of Citizen Science on Food and Agriculture in light of the implementation of the SDG’s.
The session aims are:
1) Assess potential needs for the establishment of an ECSA working group on Citizen Science on Food and Agriculture,
2) Co-develop with the participants a first set of aims and objectives for the prospective ECSA WG on Citizen Science on Food and Agriculture; and
3) Develop an activity plan and first ideas on how to get people involved in the ECSA working group.
Our presenter will first introduce the subject to the participants (Citizen Science on Food and Agriculture with a focus on the achievements of the SDGs) and will share some best practice examples. In a workshop-style format aims and objectives of an ECSA Working Group on Citizen Science on Food and Agriculture and the SDGs will be jointly developed. In case we identify great support and need for the establishment of such an ECSA working group, we envisage presenting this new working group at the ECSA annual assembly for further approval by the ECSA members at the conference.
